About Our Community

The Norbertine Order was founded by Saint Norbert of Xanten in
the year 1121. Formally, the Order is called the Canons Regular
of Premontre (named after the abbey in France founded by Saint
Norbert).

The Order’s rule of life was written by Saint Augustine, and includes:

  • Celebration of the Divine Office (a series of prayers said by the
    Community at regular hours);
  • Working for the salvation of souls through missionary work,
    ministry, and prayer;
  • Penance and reverence, arising from the knowledge that only
    God has power over sin;
  • Devotion to the Holy Eucharist;
  • Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and her Immaculate
    Conception.

The Norbertine Order has, since the time of its founding, been
diligent and effective at spreading the Word of God and the Catholic
Faith throughout the world.

Presently, more than 1,500 Norbertine priests, nuns, brothers,
deacons, and novices serve in two dozen different countries and more
than 100 Abbeys, Priories and houses.

The motto of the Norbertines is: “Prepared for all Good Works.”
