July 2010

The Norbertine Center for Spirituality was highlighted in recent articles in the Green Bay Press Gazette, Compass and Appleton Post Crescent.  The Center was also shown on Fox 11 - TV and WBAY-TV.  The Center for Spirituality supports the efforts of the Return and Recovery Program for military veterans and their families. The initiative is aimed at helping military veterans deal with post-traumatic stress through artwork.  The art therapy series is coordinated by the Artists for the Humanities, a non-profit group supporting veterans through the arts.

The July 11 ecumenical prayer service, part of the week long Isaiah 58 National Solidarity Vigil and Fast for Arizona, was highlighted in the Green Bay Press Gazette.  Brother Steve Herro, O. Praem., chairman of the St. Norbert Abbey Justice and Peace Committee and one of the event's main organizers shared information and insights regarding the social justice event and vigil.  The article in its entirety can be found by clicking here.

On July 11, 2010, WFRV -TV shared footage of the ecumenical prayer service, held at St. Norbert Abbey, which was part of the Isaiah 58 National Solidarity Vigil and Fast for Arizona initiative.  Brother Steve Herro, O. Praem., chairman of the St. Norbert Abbey Justice and Peace Committee and one of the event's main organizers, also shared his thoughts regarding the prayer service and controversial law.

March 2010

A image of Fr. Tim Shillcox, O. Praem., having his head shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research through the annual St. Baldrick's Foundation event, was displayed in the March 19th Compass Newspaper.  Fr. Tim and 9 other volunteers raised more than $5,000 in honor of Belle Mommaerts, a 4 year old parishioner at Our Lady of Lourdes who has leukemia.

Fr. Alfred McBride, O. Praem., was highlighted in the March 5 issue of The Compass.  His book "A Priest Forever, Nine Signs of Renewal and Hope" (St. Anthony Messenger Press) was recently published to coincide with the "Year for Priests." The article can be found by clicking here.

The Morning of Spiritual Renewal, a program offered by the Norbertine Center for Spirituality, was highlighted in the Green Bay Press Gazette along with a winter picture of St. Norbert Abbey.  170 women attended the event.

 

 

November 2009

On Monday, November 8th, WLUK-TV featured panelists who spoke at "Veteran's Stories of Hope, Healing and Spirituality", a program offered through the Norbertine Center for Spirituality.

Bishop Thomas Paprocki, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago, was featured in the November 13th issue of The Compass.  Bishop Paprocki, a marathon runner and hockey player, joined the St. Norbert College hockey team for practice on November 5 and dropped the ceremonial first puck of the game on November 6. He also shared thoughts with the team regarding the connection between sports and faith.  Fr. James Baraniak, O. Praem. was instrumental in coordinating the event.  Both are involved with Catholic Athletes for Christ.

 

 

October 2009

Brother Steve Herro, O. Praem. is the recipient of the Mediation Center 2009 Carol Montie Community Service Award.  Bro. Steve was acknowledged in a recent Green Bay Press Gazette article which stated, "He is being recognized for his extraordinary efforts in promoting dialogue, understanding and the peaceful resolution of conflict."

Fr. James Baraniak, O. Praem. was highlighted in a Green Bay Press Gazette entitled  "Precautionary Faith" on  Saturday, October 3,  regarding swine flu concerns and liturgical hygiene practices.

A statue of St. Michael the Archangel, sculpted by the late  Fr. Don Noel, O. Praem., was gifted to St. Agnes-by-the-Lake Episcopal Church in Algoma by the St. Norbert Abbey Community on September 29, the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel.  The statue and dedication were featured in Green Bay Press Gazette articles on Wednesday, October 7 accessed at: http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2009910070740

The blessing and dedication of the sculpture of St. Michael the Archangel, the work of the late Norbertine, Fr. Don Noel, O. Praem., was highlighted in an article in the Green Bay Press Gazette. The sculpture was a gift from the St. Norbertine Abbey Community to the Church of St. Agnes-by-the-Lake in Algoma.  The article can be found by clicking here

Fr. Jeremy Tobin, O. Praem. has written an article regarding Catholic Charities entitled "Reconciliation, the Only Path to Healing."  It is included in the Summer 2009 issue of Koinonia, a quarterly newsletter for members of Parish Social Ministry. It can be found here 

Fr. Michael Frisch, O. Praem. was highlighted in an article of the Green Bay Press Gazette on August 13.  Fr. Frisch performed a 30 minute organ prelude at the Moravian Church of Heritage Hill State Historical Park in Green Bay during a benefit concert.  The article can be found here

The announcement of the hiring of Sr. Judith Miller, CSJ, who joined the Norbetine Center for Spirituality, was included in the Green Bay Press Gazette and The Compass.

The Community Snapshots page of the Green Bay Press Gazette featured a photo of the Mass commemorating the 50th anniversary of the dedication of St. Norbert Abbey.

On June 22, Fr. Andy Cribben, O. Praem was featured on WBAY for his involvement at an immigration press conference and rally.

Fr. Tim Shillcox, O. Praem. was pictured in the Press Gazette on April 3. Fr. Tim, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes, along with members of the building project fundraising committee were shown burning the church mortgage in celebration of the dedication of the 10th anniversary of the church by retiring the debt.

Brother Steve Herro, O. Praem. was pictured in the Green Bay Press Gazette on April 3. He was shown sorting household items received from the annual "Help for the Homeless" campaign. 450 boxes of donations were collected and will be distributed to 36 homeless shelters and crisis agencies.

Brother Steve Herro, O. Praem. was featured on WFRV -TV for his involvement with Free Cycle, a non-profit movement to help people give and get free items, keeping perfectly reusable objects out of landfills. The TV special also will highlight the greening of church operations in the area. Bro. Steve currently serves as chair of the St. Norbert Abbey Justice and Peace Committee as well as the Social Concerns Director of the Diocece of Green Bay.

The Compass featured Fr. Tim Shillcox, O. Praem. in its Vocation 2009 special section. The article entitled, "Artist priest learns about God from clay pots" highlights Fr. Tim and the insights he has gained about God though the potting process including: the clay, wheel, kiln and glaze. He shared, "I never thought art would have played a role in my priesthhod like this. But its the way Jesus taught too, his analogies were drawn from real life and they taught the eternal truth of things." The article can be found in the January 9, 2009 issue of The Compass.

A St. Norbert Abbey Mass honoring veterans with Fr. Conrad J. Kratz, O. Praem. presiding, was televised on WBAY and Fox 11 on Sunday, November 9. Interviews with area veterans were shown along with Jim Smits, a US Army veteran and coordinator of the event through the Norbertine Center for Spirituality. The Fallen Solidiers Program portraits were also on display and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Color Guard was in attendance.
