Three men enter the Norbertine novitiate
Matthew M. Dougherty, 22, entered the Norbertine novitiate on August 27, 2009 during a Solemn Vesper service at St. Norbert Abbey. Matthew is the son of Philip and Theresa Ann (Smith) Dougherty of Waukesha, WI and a 2009 graduate of St. Norbert College (Biology) in De Pere, WI. The first year Norbertine novitiate experience will take place at Holy Spirit House of Studies, the Norbertine house of formation in Chicago, IL.
Graham Golden and Stephen Gaertner were vested as novices at Santa Maria de la Vid Priory in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Priory is a daughter house of St. Norbert Abbey.
Graham R. Golden was born in Albuquerque and graduated from St. Pius High School in 2004. He is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of New Mexico with a BA in Music and Spanish. As an affiliate of the Norbertine Community of New Mexico he studied philosophy at St. Norbert College during the first semester of last year and at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago during the second semester. Graham is the son of Dan and Deborah Golden and was a member of the Aquinas Newman Center of the University of New Mexico.
Stephen A. Gaertner was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Stephen is a magnum cum laude graduate in English from St. Norbert College in 1998 and a MA graduate in English from Michigan State University in 2002. In addition to completing doctoral classes at Michigan State he has been a teacher at Lansing Community College. Stephen is the son of Robert C. Gaertner of Midland, Michigan.
