On October 30, the Norbertine Volunteer Community house, located at 615 St. George Street, Green Bay, was blessed by Abbot Gary J. Neville, O. Praem.
The Norbertine Volunteer Community, a ministry of St. Norbert Abbey, is comprised of post-college age young adults who have committed to volunteer service through local agencies, neighborhood civic organizations and faith based events.
The focus of the Norbertine Volunteer Community is to begin building relationships with other residents of Olde North and Three Corners Neighborhoods of Green Bay and discover together ways that NVC members can strengthen the community and involve themselves in advocacy on behalf of those most in need. These volunteers will respond to the real and unique needs and opportunities of the neighborhood and work for justice, while living as an intentional community of volunteers.
"The Norbertine Volunteer Community is being established to give young adults a local opportunity to serve others, but also to explore at a deeper level how God has called the members to spend their lives in service," shared director, Ellen Mommaerts.
The places of service in which the volunteers are involved include: Nicolet School, Boys and Girls Club, Family Resources of N.E.W, Wildlife Sanctuary, Ss. Peter and Paul Parish and Golden House.
